From the 1970s and 1980s, Mike Embden enjoyed a sucessful career as an illustrator producing books and advertisements, posters for hoardings, and over one hundred book covers.
During this time, driven by a passion for the natural world, Mike Embden decided to devote himself to landscape painting.
Mike Embden's inspiration is drawn from the soft, rolling forms of the hills and coombs with their ancient cuttings, paths and droveways and the low light and long shadows that can reveal these forms to dramatic effect. In recent years, Mike Embden has made a series of larger paintings of the South Downs.
